Jack Ryder wants a more challenging role after leaving EastEnders later this year.
The 20-year-old, who wed ex-Hear'Say singer Kym Marsh at the weekend, recently announced plans to leave the soap in November.
"I've got ambition, I want to spread my wings and play different roles. I don't just want to play a blonde teenager from the East End," he told this week's OK! magazine.
"I want to pile on the weight and play a psycho or something. I want to play someone with a disability, study the part and get into it."
His character, Phil's nephew Jamie Mitchell, will be killed off in a Christmas storyline from meningitis, according to reports.
