Coronation Street newcomer Ben Price has backed Olly Murs to win this year's series of The X Factor.

The 37-year-old - who has been cast as the Weatherfield soap's third incarnation of Nick Tilsley - believes that the Essex-born finalist possesses the right mixture of stage presence and personality to win the competition.

Speaking to DS, Price said: "I like Olly. He seems a really nice guy as well and I'd like to see him carry on like Will Young. The good ones carry on even if they don't win it, too - look at JLS. What you see in the programme now is a marrying of what they do on stage and what their personalities are like."

He then mused: "Olly's [a nice guy] - I don't think the public like it if you don't have much humour about yourself."

Price landed the role of Gail Platt's (Helen Worth) eldest son shortly after producers announced their intention to recast the character, last played by Adam Rickitt.

Murs joins Stacey Solomon and Joe McElderry in this weekend's X Factor final.
