Wheeler optimistic over Dales future
Emmerdale star Nicola Wheeler has revealed that she is keen to stick with the soap for the rest of her life.

The 35-year-old actress confirmed that she is committed to a long-term future for her character Nicola De Souza as long as producers grant her occasional breaks.

Wheeler has already departed the ITV1 show temporarily in early 2006. She later returned to her role after 18 months away.

Speaking to the Daily Record, she commented: "I don't think people realise what an all-consuming job this is, because people think you are your character. That's why it becomes your life.

"You never really get to go anywhere without being reminded that you work on Emmerdale. People forget that for us, it is work.

"But I think what Emmerdale do well is they let people have a break - like they have with Deena Payne, who is just back after a year away, and they are doing with Verity Rushworth. They've been allowed to go off and do other things. Actors need that.

"If I get that opportunity, I could be in Emmerdale forever because I love working here."

Wheeler joined the programme in 2001 and her character has since become one of Emmerdale's biggest villains.
