The actress opened up about her ordeal in a newspaper interview last year, revealing that an old partner had been violent and manipulative during their time together.
Pallett's confession came as viewers watched her soap character Jo Sugden experiencing similar troubles in her relationship with husband Andy (Kelvin Fletcher).
Reflecting on her decision to speak out, the 26-year-old told Take 5: "Whatever your character goes through, you have to talk about it. It would be really selfish to do the lines and then go home at night.
"Your character represents what a lot of people are going through. I had people opening up to me, telling me similar things had happened to them."
Asked if she found it difficult to trust men after breaking ties with her abusive partner, she replied: "Yeah. You can't imagine being in another relationship after that, but you move on."
Pallett recently suggested that her character's exit sent out a positive message to real-life domestic violence victims.
