'Emmerdale' to explain actor's injuries

Emmerdale star James Thornton's current injuries are to be written into the show, it has been revealed.

The actor has been using crutches in recent weeks after being hit by a car last month while on a trip to London with wife Joanna Page.

According to The Sun, fans of the ITV1 soap will soon hear that Thornton's character John Barton needs the crutches because he was kicked by a cow.

A source told the newspaper: "John is a farmer so it's possible a cow would kick him."

Emmerdale producers initially had to rewrite a number of scenes involving John Barton after the accident because they did not know when Thornton would be back at work.
