Emmerdale newcomer Suzanne Shaw has admitted that the soap's intense filming schedule came as a "shock" when she joined the drama.

The actress signed up to play Edna Birch's (Shirley Stelfox) granddaughter Eve Jenson in January and will be seen making her debut in the role later this week.

Shaw first found fame in pop group Hear'Say before later securing parts in West End shows like Chicago and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Speaking to PA about how she has adjusted to her Emmerdale commitments, the star explained: "It's bloody hard, so it's a been a little bit of a shock to the system but I'm enjoying it!"

She continued: "[It's] very different. Everything's a lot smaller - it works at a very different pace. I'm so used to doing evening work and live shows.

"Also, with all the script learning, I'm constantly learning scripts, whereas I normally do a few weeks of learning a role and then have six months of not having to learn a script because you know the character so well.

"So the process of every single night reading your scripts, learning it for the next day and getting used to your call times and working in blocks is really hectic."
