Emmerdale star Lyndon Ogbourne has revealed that he is often verbally abused in the street due to his alter ego Nathan Wylde.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the actor - who has played the devious character since February 2009 - claimed that angry fans help his confidence as an actor.

He said: "I get quite a lot of abuse. I went to Glastonbury and I was getting a fair amount of abuse, saying I was nasty and to leave off my mum.

"People love to hate Nathan and I love it. He's one of the most evil characters in soap and it's great to be given the chance to play him.

"Being abused on the street is like a reward for doing a good job. It's better to have comments than not having any at all. I wouldn't want to be a nice character or someone who props up the bar."
