Paul McEwan has admitted that he would be torn over starring in another soap because he feels loyalty towards Emmerdale.

The actor, who played policeman Shane Doyle until he was murdered in 2008, revealed that he loved his time on the ITV1 soap, especially because he is originally from Yorkshire.

According to PA, when asked if he would appear in a rival soap, he said: "I am kind of torn. You never say no because they are such fantastic jobs but I have such love and loyalty for Emmerdale. When I left, we were joking that I would grow a moustache and come back as Shane's brother.

"I love being up in the Dales as I'm from Yorkshire too. I'm a great fan of the soaps and am very open to going into another, but my heart will always live in Emmerdale."

Speaking of his new role in Tennessee Williams's The Two-Character Play, he added: "Up until this play, my favourite two jobs were the Royal Shakespeare Company and Emmerdale. It's the people you work with, how welcome you feel and how much joy you get going to work in the morning."

The Two-Character Play is currently on at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London.
