'Emmerdale' leads 'Enders in clash

Emmerdale beat EastEnders as the two soaps clashed on Thursday evening.

Between 7.30pm and 8pm, when the pair went head-to-head, the village serial had 8.01m (30.5%) for John and Moira's marriage crisis, while 6.68m (25.4%) watched Ian punch Masood in Albert Square.

Over the full hour, Emmerdale averaged 8.08m (31.5%), then Tyrone's shock discovery in Coronation Street was seen by 9.93m (38.1%) at 8pm.

Channel 4's Hollyoaks took 1.15m (4.7%) and 478k (1.9%) for E4's first look, while Doctors - affected by the cold weather - climbed again to 2.12m (20.9%).

Elsewhere, Neighbours delivered 901k (8.8%) at 1.45pm and 1.44m (7.7%) at 5.30pm to Channel 5, while Home and Away brought in respective audiences of 462k (4.9%), 865k (3.9%) and 562k (2.3%) for Fiver's first look.
