Emmerdale star Jeff Hordley has admitted that his character Cain Dingle does not take partner Charity seriously when she dumps him in next week's episodes.

Tension between the couple is about to reach fever pitch on screen as Cain has a one-night stand with Faye Lamb (Kim Thomson), determined for revenge as he is convinced that Charity has cheated.

In reality, however, Charity (Emma Atkins) has stayed faithful to Cain by spurning the advances of her boss Jai Sharma. Later, when she discovers that Cain has slept with Faye, she declares that their relationship is over.

Discussing how Cain reacts to the break-up, Hordley commented: "He's still absolutely convinced Charity has slept with Jai and he wants her to admit something was going on. They've had arguments like this before and I think he just assumes she'll be back."

Meanwhile, asked about the attraction between Cain and Faye, he explained: "Faye kind of said to him in the pub, 'You'll want to get back at her, won't you?' Faye's playing a game as well because she and Jai have split and she doesn't like Charity, so they both have an ulterior motive and it's no strings attached."

The actor also hinted that Cain and Charity will struggle without each other if their split proves permanent.

He said: "Cain and Charity can't live with each other but they also can't live without each other."
