Katie Sugden is left terrified as her hostage horror reaches an explosive climax in tonight's Emmerdale double bill.

Last night, viewers saw Nick Henshall finally tell Katie that he was responsible for the devastating arson attack on the village - before events took a new twist when he refused to let her leave his home.

This evening's episodes see the police presence grow outside Henshall's house as his behaviour becomes increasingly irrational. Just when it looks like things can't get any worse, the twisted detective is furious to see Andy outside - prompting him to open up a cabinet and pull out a gun…

The police attempt to negotiate Katie's release and later get ready to storm the property, but they're forced to back off when they realise that Henshall has a weapon.

Fearing that the situation is about to end in tragedy, Andy steps forward and makes an impassioned plea for Katie's life. Inside, meanwhile, Katie starts to play a dangerous game in a bid to trick Henshall - insisting that he can't really love her if he treats her like this.

Soon afterwards, Andy hears a shot ring out from inside the building… Have his worst fears become a reality?

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm and 8pm on ITV1. Click through the gallery below for an in-pictures look at the dramatic double bill:
