Dales star grateful for "good guy" plot

Nicola Wheeler has admitted that she is grateful for the chance to portray the innocent party in her current Emmerdale storyline.

The actress's feisty character Nicola King was left devastated in last night's episodes after learning that her husband Jimmy (Nick Miles) no longer knows her because he is suffering from amnesia.

In the coming weeks, Jimmy's ex-fiancée Kelly Windsor (Adele Silva) is expected to throw another spanner in the works when she starts taking advantage of his condition by trying to win him back.

Speaking on Lorraine about Nicola and Jimmy's struggles, Wheeler joked: "I think most men would say that Jimmy is lucky to have forgotten her! But for once, Nicola's the good guy. She never gets a storyline where she is the good guy, but [here] she's the good guy. It's something new to play."

She continued: "I think it's nice because obviously it gives a chance for Nicola to realise how much she loves Jimmy and she realises she's been taking him for granted.

"But, as the audience will see, as the story unfolds it becomes more of a struggle for Nicola. It really tests how much she loves Jimmy and the old side of Nicola creeps in a little bit - of 'Hang on, do I need to take this rubbish from a man?'."

Wheeler also confirmed that Kelly will find it easy to manipulate Jimmy in the weeks ahead, managing to hide the fact that she was responsible for the injury which caused his amnesia.

She said: "Kelly basically gives Jimmy exactly what he wants - she doesn't want him to remember, so she puts no pressure on him to remember anything. And unfortunately it means that Jimmy's little heart starts tugging that way."
