'Emmerdale' Sharma newcomers 'will ruffle feathers'

Emmerdale star Rik Makarem has hinted that there could be trouble in the village when his screen family arrive.

Show bosses recently announced the casting of Trudie Goodwin as Nikhil's formidable mother Georgia, Bhasker Patel as his business-obsessed father Rishi and Fiona Wade as his fun-loving sister Priya.

Georgia, Rishi and Priya all turn up in the village later in the autumn as Nikhil's brother Jai (Chris Bisson) prepares to marry his fiancée Charity Tate.

Makarem told This Morning today: "That's brilliant - we've finally got the full family joining us. They've just begun filming.

"They'll definitely be ruffling some feathers - in particular Georgia. She's a very strong character and she's got a thing or two to say about Nikhil's love life, and moreso Jai's love life with Charity!"

Makarem said that he is particularly excited to be working with Goodwin, who is best known for her role as June Ackland on The Bill.

"She's created a wonderful character, and after playing such an established character on The Bill, to come and create a new character with a different energy is really good," he commented.

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV1.
