The actress, who played Sgt June Ackland for 23 yeas on The Bill, was cast as Georgia Sharma - Jai and Nikhil's outspoken mother - last month.
Goodwin confessed that she was apprehensive about being the new girl on set because she previously spent so long on The Bill, but insisted that the cast helped her settle in.
"It's always a bit daunting joining a long-running show because everybody sort of knows what they are doing and you don't," she told ITV.
"It was a while ago [The Bill] and a very different part. Everybody made it very easy. It's going to be good fun."
Goodwin, the real-life mother of La Roux star Elly Jackson, recently confirmed that she is only planning a short stint on Emmerdale.
"I'm not going to be here for years and years. I'm not doing that again!" she said.
