Emmerdale star Danny Miller has been voted the 'Best Soap Actor' of the year in the Digital Spy 2011 reader poll.

The 20-year-old, who plays troubled mechanic Aaron Livesy on the show, was victorious in the survey of our 12 million monthly visitors.

Aaron has had another dramatic year on Emmerdale as his relationship with Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) reached a tragic conclusion in an assisted suicide storyline in June.

The story reaches its climax for Jackson, but its only the beginning for Aaron and Hazel

Although he was found not guilty of murder when he stood trial over his boyfriend's death, Aaron later started to self-harm as he struggled to cope with his guilt.

More recently, Aaron has been left stunned by a vicious attack on his uncle Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

Miller today told Digital Spy: "Thanks so much to everyone who voted for me, it's been a great year and this is a lovely early Christmas present."

Hollyoaks actor Emmett Scanlan came second for his portrayal of Brendan Brady, who was recently released from prison after being framed for murder.

EastEnders stars Jake Wood (Max Branning) and Shane Richie (Alfie Moon) finished third and fourth respectively, while Coronation Street's Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) took fifth place.
