Ex-Emmerdale star James Thornton has revealed that he has voiced the trailer for the 2012 British Soap Awards.

The 36-year-old actor, who played farmer John Barton in the rural soap for three years from 2009, has been a voiceover artist for many years.

"Just voiced the trailer for The British Soap Awards. Hope that means I am going to win," he wrote on Twitter.

Thornton is nominated for 'Best Exit' and 'Spectacular Scene' with Natalie J Robb for the car crash stunt which killed his character.

Yesterday, ITV confirmed that the British Soap Awards will be screened on Wednesday, May 2 at 8pm on ITV1.

Presented by Phillip Schofield, the ceremony also includes the categories 'Sexiest Male', 'Sexiest Female', 'Villain of the Year', 'Best Actor', 'Best Actress' and 'Best British Soap', which can still be voted upon on the official website.
