'Emmerdale' wedding pips 'EastEnders' in Thursday ratings

Emmerdale just edged EastEnders in the Thursday soap ratings when comparing first showings, overnight data shows.

Paddy and Rhona's big wedding attracted 5.04m (27.3%) at 7pm (+1: 114k/0.5%), after which 5.01m (20.4%) returned for Marlon's buzz-killing revelation at 8pm (+1: 244k/1%).

Shirley's proposal to Phil in EastEnders took 4.98m (23.7%) at 7.30pm, but added 658k (5.2%) for BBC Three's 10pm repeat.

Coronation Street was top dog with 5.82m (22.9%) at 8.30pm (+1: 366k/1.6%). All three primetime soaps were affected by BBC One's popular Olympics coverage.

Doug's lying in Hollyoaks was witnessed by 633k (3.8%) at 6.30pm, then E4's first look grabbed 387k (2.1%).

Neighbours continued with an aggregated audience of 1.2m - drawing 469k (6%) at 1.45pm and 735k (5.7%) at 5.30pm.

Home and Away's classic repeats enthralled 164k (1.1%) and 153k (0.9%) in the 6pm hour.
