However, next week's episodes see Paddy arrested for assaulting a police officer amid a violent clash with Leo's father Marlon over their ongoing custody battle.
While a desperate Rhona leaves for New Zealand with Leo anyway, Paddy finds himself in much bigger trouble than he expected as he remains on home soil.
Brunt told Inside Soap: "Paddy thinks that if Rhona can get Leo out of there, he'll be able to meet them later on. She needs to get away while she can - so Paddy tells his wife to just head off while no-one is looking."
Confirming that Paddy will be charged over the assault, the actor continued: "He thinks he's just going to get a caution, and doesn't realise the consequences until later.
"He doesn't take it seriously until a letter comes from the veterinary council saying he's got to go and see them, as they might have to suspend him from being a vet. He never for a moment thought this would prevent him taking up his new job abroad."
Emmerdale airs the arrest scenes on Friday, September 14 at 7pm on ITV1.
