Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden has hinted that he is playing a minor role in tonight's (October 17) live episode.

The David Metcalfe actor revealed that he will be helping off-screen fiancée Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle) prepare for the 40th anniversary special.

"I can sit back and support her because she's genuinely so nervous about it," Wolfenden is quoted by the Daily Star as saying.

Wolfenden also admitted that the cast are "pretty nervous" about the project, adding: "As an actor when you forget your lines you do tend to go into auto-pilot and swear and do all sorts, things you can't do on live television.

"You'll see everybody on the live episode, you'll hear everybody, everyone's doing something."

Fellow Emmerdale cast member Emma Atkins today claimed that "it's too late for any nerves" regarding the live episode.
