Since performing his final scenes live to the nation, Lister has been flooded with messages on Twitter wishing him well for the future.

Addressing his followers today (October 18), Lister tweeted: "I still haven't made my way through all your tweets. Overwhelmed. Sore head and dry throat but happy heart after last night. Thank you all."

He added: "I'm off to the Big Smoke now to do Daybreak tomorrow morning and will be on Calendar News tonight for all you Leeds crew!"

Carl's final scenes, which saw him murdered by Cameron Murray, pulled in a peak audience above the 9m mark yesterday evening.

Viewers can also expect a big aftermath from his passing in the coming days as the police begin to investigate.
