'Emmerdale' star finds sex scenes 'bizarre'

Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has described filming the show's sex scenes as “bizarre”.

The actor, who plays David Metcalfe in the ITV1 soap, said any pretence at passion was difficult with so many crew members in the room.

His character has slept with Delilah Dingle (Hayley Tamaddon), Katie Sugden (Sammy Winward), Tonicha Daggert (Kerry Stacey) and Jasmine Thomas (Jenna-Louise Coleman) as well as current love interest Nicola De Souza (Nicola Wheeler) since his arrival in the village 18 months ago.

He told The Sun: “It’s weird doing the love scenes as you’re in a room with dozens of people - two or three cameramen, soundmen and make-up - it’s not very passionate and very bizarre.

“I’ve done so many love scenes that I’m not nervous anymore and I knew Nicola before we had to get between the sheets.”

The 27-year-old revealed that partner Joanne Cavanagh also found his onscreen romps strange, saying: “She says ‘How do you do it?’ As a viewer, she finds it really bizarre but she doesn’t mind. She sees the character on screen, not her boyfriend.

“At first she was taken aback by my character’s antics but she’s cool about it now and she knows all the girls.”

Wolfenden recently said he would like a competition between all the rival soaps on the Nintendo Wii.
