Pallett is "so proud" of 'Emmerdale' plot

Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett has revealed that she is "so proud" of the way the soap's producers have handled the issue of domestic abuse.

Roxanne's character Jo Sugden is currently being terrorised by her husband Andy, played by Kelvin Fletcher.

"I have had people stop me in the street and we've had letters from women saying they now have the courage to do something about their own situations," Roxanne told the Daily Star. "That is just unbelievable and I am so proud of what we have done at Emmerdale.

"Domestic abuse is not always about physical violence, it's the mental control as well. Over the next few weeks, you'll see Jo become a shell of her former self. Andy will be manipulative and slowly take away more of her self-esteem and self-worth. That is far more realistic than seeing someone beaten up all the time."

She added: "Even if we just help one woman escape her abuse, that's the best thing ever."

Speaking about her own personal life, Roxanne recently confirmed that she is "sexy and single".
