Fletcher admits doubts over 'Emmerdale' plot

Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has admitted that he was "sceptical" when he was told that he would be at the centre of a domestic abuse plot.

A recent episode of the ITV1 soap saw the actor's character Andy Sugden coming to blows with his wife Jo, played by Roxanne Pallett.

"When I first read the scripts, I was sceptical," Kelvin told Celebs on Sunday magazine. "But the thing is, people think Andy's going to turn into the devil, but he's really just insecure. Him and Jo had a massive row and in a moment of anger he lashed out.

"Of course I don't condone it, but there aren't any plans to make him really nasty. Hopefully he's going to face his demons. He's already aware of what he did and regrets it desperately. But unfortunately it might happen again. You can always expect a turbulent life with Andy."

Pallett recently revealed that she is "so proud" of the way Emmerdale chiefs have handled the storyline.
