Bonus Scoop: Emmerdale's Matt King

Published Tuesday, Dec 9 2008, 06:00 GMT | By Kris Green | 25 comments
After nearly five years in the role, Emmerdale's Matt King is to leave the village in a dramatic fatal storyline - the ending of which has surprisingly been kept under wraps. The episodic pictures surrounding his departure have been cunningly cut before the 'event' happens, so it'll be interesting to see it all unfold on screen.

Here, I give to you some extra quotes from my recent interview with Matt about his exit from the Yorkshire soap. Matt talks about his standout scene, his funniest moment and life beyond Emmerdale.

Looking back, which of Matthew's relationships have you enjoyed the most?
"Anna, hands down. Somehow, in such a short space of time, we've made people believe their relationship, that they genuinely love each other."

What's been the stand-out moment for you during your time at Emmerdale?
"Being allowed to call Grayson Sinclair 'Larry'! You're not normally allowed to mess around with scripts too much, but I came up with Larry and there was a big discussion with the 'upstairs people' and in the end, they quite liked it. I got to say 'shut that door' at one point, too."

What's been the standout scene for you?
"I think it was when we were messing about moving the postman Paul Marsden's body. I remember all that quite clearly, even though that was about four years ago. That was when Matthew came into his own, really, and when the audience first started to see him look after his brothers."

What's been the funniest moment?
"Grayson and Matthew fighting over an open grave, when they were burying Rosemary [Sinclair]. During that fight sequence, we actually both fell into the grave backwards, which will probably appear on It'll Be Alright On The Night at some point!"

What will you miss the most?
"The people. Cast, crew, everyone to do with it. That's what makes Emmerdale."

What do you have planned beyond Emmerdale?
"I'm hopefully going to do nothing until January. Then if it's February and I'm still doing nothing, I'll start to worry! I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks off."

We saw Matt Healy in the play 'Inside Job' at Crewe at the end of June 2010. Matt is drop dead gorgeous, and my mate Elaine fell in love with Christopher Villiers. We enjoyed a drink at the Swan with them - they are brilliant company as well as great actors.

Gutted that Matt Healy left Emmerdale, he spiced it up, absolutely drop dead gorgeous!! I was lucky enough to see him at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, recently - he was brilliant and very very sexy in the flesh!!

I was and still am gutted that Matt is no linger in Emmerdale. He is drop dead gorgeous! Was lucky enough to meet him one Sunday lunch time and he allowed me to take his photo, [which I treasure], and he was the nicest person you could wish to meet, those gorgeous blue eyes are like 2 of the biggest blue topaz ever. Miss you Matt, hope to see you on screen, {or elsewhere!!} soon.

I miss Matt King very much, he was good actor and soaps in Emmerdale which he was my favouirte. Yes I understand he must fed up to wear suits everyday for work. Relax Matt no suits to wear now. All the best

Matt Healy was one of the best things to happen to Emmedale. It such a shame he's left. Week night won't be the same without him. Hopefully we'll see him again soon.
Anna, Durham, on December 26th, 2008
What a mistake to get rid of Matthew King, he was one of the best characters in Emmerdale, and brilliantly played by Matt Healey. Please, someone from Coronation Street snap him up, he would make a great factory boss.

Sorry can't agree with Jane from Norwich! Apart from saying she is in the minority. Matt Healys departure is premature, he is a great actor with comedic moments such as his confrontations with grayson and his use of 'larry' which had both me and missus in stitches. Can't wait to see what he does next.....could see him in his own police show as the main character maybe. Thanks for the last 5 years Matt, you will be sorely missed!!
Jane, Norwich, on December 23rd, 2008
I am clearly in the minority. I am pleased that MK has gone. MH, for me, sadly, was all scowls and he couldn't walk two paces without his hands in his pockets. I fear for his future as an actor!
Mary, Sidcup, on December 18th, 2008
Really sorry to see Matt go. Its a shame all the best characters are killed off. What have we left?
Paul, Wilts, on December 18th, 2008
I didn't know Matt was leaving to be honest until it happened. It was a shock to be honest Matt King was a character you loved to hate, and i feel its a mistake getting rid of him to be honest. The Kings have became a great part of Emmerdale and im a bit sad to see him gone. Its all death in the dales lately!
Katrina, Norfolk, on December 17th, 2008
Matt Healy is a great actor, I loved him to bits, he will be missed on Emmerdale. I think he would be great as the next James Bond if Daniel Craig hung in the towel.
Millie Elkin, Northern Ireland, on December 17th, 2008
I had the pleasure of having my photo taken with Mathew when he was in Ireland. A real gentleman. Emmerdale will not be the same for me.
Robin Hawkins, Newbury, on December 17th, 2008
I am very very sorry to see Matthew King go. I don't think I will be watching Emmerdale anymore.
Wilma, North Ayrshire, on December 16th, 2008
I was totally gutted. Didn't expect Matt too go like that......
Poppy, Sussex, on December 16th, 2008
I thought Matthew King the most fascinating character on Emmerdale and I don't know if I can sustain interest now he's gone.
Sarah, on December 16th, 2008
Matthew King was my favourite character, i can't believe he's died. I wanted them to leave it open so he could have come back some time.
