Poll: What's Faye's connection to Mark?

Published Saturday, May 9 2009, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green | 6 comments
Many thanks to the thousands and thousands of you who voted in last week's soap poll, for which I asked: 'Who's the Daddy in EastEnders?'.

Yep, this vote has been the biggest ever and the poll has firmed up your three favourite candidates who could be expectant fathers to Heather's (Cheryl Fergison) baby - and just not know it.

Minty Peterson (Cliff Parisi) came out as the favourite, racking up 28.8% of the total vote. The pair did have a brief 'thing' not so long ago, which saw them marry, before Heather quickly annulled the marriage when she caught him kissing another woman. Ever since, their relationship has been stale to say the least, but Heather's still clearly besotted with him. What would Manda (Josie Lawrence) say? Maybe the revelation as to the paternity of Heather's baby is intertwined with her story arc, too?

Next up with 24% of the vote came Eddie (Will Chitty), the guy Heather was snogging in R&R back in February - the same night she lost her lucky yoghurt pot lid. Could his fleeting visit have ultimately involved an overnight stay? Maybe he'll make a comeback as a more permanent character for a storyline which sees he and Heather live happily ever after? Highly unlikely - it is EastEnders after all.

And with 19.8% of the vote comes Phil (Steve McFadden). Now this would be a turn up for the books. Imagine this hypothetical situation: just as Phil and Shirley complete their stint with Alcoholics Anonymous and finally unite without the aid of alcohol, Heather stuns them both when she reveals that Phil betrayed his lover with her best mate. Sounds good, but would they storyliners go down such a predictable route?

However, there have been a few subtle hints in recent episodes, which have seen Darren (Charlie G Hawkins) talking about about kids and the future. He only notched up 5.1% of the tally. It's definitely a shocking candidate if it does turn out to be him.

Here are where the remaining votes went:

Someone else 9.2%
Garry 5.4%
Vinnie 2.7%
Billy 2.4%
Christian 1.5%
Charlie 0.6%
Callum 0.5%

I've still not given up it being George Michael's baby. Perfect opportunity for a cameo, no? OK, maybe not.

Moving on to this week's poll in which I ask: 'What's Faye's connection to Mark?'

Having joined Emmerdale in February, Kim Thomson's been on our screens now for almost two months and we still know hardly anything about the mysterious Faye Lamb (Kim Thomson).

Having spotted coverage of Mark's (Maxwell Caulfield) birthday celebrations in Horse and Hound magazine, she began watching him and his wife Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) from a distance. The Wyldes' son Will (Oscar Lloyd) temporarily went missing in March and when Mark saw Faye speeding away, he feared the worst - until it later transpired that Will was actually hiding from his family.

She went on to apply for a job a Home Farm but when Mark realised she was in Emmerdale and applying for a job on his doorstep, he was livid. The pair eventually came face to face last month and he soon offered her a luxury flat to leave him alone.
