Poll: Are you happy Lexi's been written out?
Published Saturday, Aug 15 2009, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green | 15 comments
Last week, I asked if Coronation Street's Fiz and John were right for each other.
Looking at the results, this poll has really split readers, with the votes almost evenly spread across the three choices.
Almost a third of respondents (31.3%) chose the 'Yes, they're perfect for each other' option, while the 'No, it's a ridiculous relationship' option polled the most, with 35.4% of votes. The remaining 33.4% admitted that they were past caring about them.
I'm slowly becoming tired of the story, but I think that's due to Fiz's (Jennie McAlpine) pining for John (Graeme Hawley) becoming exhausting to watch. Only another couple of months to go. Until then though, it's not all Fiz whining - there's a wedding to throw into the mix.
> More Fiz and John wedding pictures!
Will Chesney (Sam Aston) accept that his sister is about to become Mrs Fiona Stape? And what will the Websters have to say when John finally returns to the cobbles?
Onto this week's vote now, in which I have to focus on former Emmerdale actress Sally Oliver, who played the now-departed Lexi King.

Over the last few months, I have really warmed to Sally and her portrayal of Lexi. She really started to 'own' her character, something which I think was down to the fact that she finally had some direction or some clarification of Lexi's status and purpose in the village. Until recently, she's almost been a lost soul.
Thursday night's real-time roof episode was nothing short of excellent - the acting, the direction, the writing and the culmination to Lexi's story. Admittedly, when I first watched the episodes last weekend, I was a little disappointed that Lexi didn't splatter on the pavement below. Not because I have a twisted mind, but because I thought it would have been more dramatic than her walking.
However, watching the episodes back when they aired on Thursday, Lexi's final line was more dramatic than splattering on a pavement could ever be: "You're a liar and a cheat - why the hell would I want to stay with you? We could have had such a wonderful life… Never mind, eh?"
I think it's safe to say that Emmerdale's in safe hands with new series producer Gavin Blyth and Thursday's episodes just go to show that when the show's on form, it's excellent.
So for this week's poll, I have to ask: 'Are you happy Lexi's been written out?' Cast your vote using the usual panel below.

I agree with the first comment. She used to make me cringe too. She should have taken a few more of them with here, especially Betty and val yuk!! I think viewers should be able to vote characters off the soaps (like I'm a celebrity get me out of here) " Im a crap actor get me out of here" Still that's only my opinion.

Thank goodness she has left. Her acting was cringeable and her departure was long overdue although I was starting to feel sorry for her character but she bought it on herself. Carl and Chas were meant to be together but what about poor Paddy!

Pity she and Carl didn't both go off the hospital roof.

Sally Oliver couldn't act. I've rarely seen anone so wooden. She was always over egging her scenes. I thought she was worse than Linda Lusardi which is saying something.

I thought Sally Oliver was outstanding in her final episode and it really showed her potential. I thought Lexi was very much coming into her own since the change in producer to Gavin Blyth - he gave the whole storyline a focus for the characters so in a way I'm sad Sally Oliver chose to leave as would have liked to see the development. But she had a cracking exit! Emmerdale is in fantasric hands with Gavin Blyth. The team can be really proud of Lexi's exit - and her last line was so poignant and understated. Amazing script and delivery.

Sally Oliver's performance in her last Emmerdale appearance deserves some recognition in the soap awards. I will definitely give her my vote. It was one of these one-off, outstanding acting gems that appear now and then in these underrated British soaps.

It's a pity that Lexi was written out and not Carl. Carl is dull and the actor is boring. Sally Oliver was brilliant in the dramatic episodes. I am pleased that she didn't get splattered.

It would be nice if Carl got his comeuppance, how many people has he killed now? It's yet another life he's ruined and he never shows any remorse. Carl should have gone, not Lexi.

It was the right decision to have Lexi leave, Sally's acting improved so much over the past few months, and i wish her well. But after telling your husband to get stuffed after stealing a baby, there isn't anywhere for the character of Lexi to go. I look forward to the hopeful reunion of Carl and Chas, as Tom and Lucy work much better together.

I am really glad she went. She couldn't act - her attempt at crying was appalling - not a tear in sight. I couldn't stand her voice either. Anyway, Carl belongs with Chas.

I always thought Lexi was rather annoying though it was a shame she lost the baby.
