Danny Miller's charity Once Upon A Smile has launched its 'Raising Smiles' fundraising event today (November 23).

As we reported earlier this month, the Raising Smiles Fundraising Weekend is a three-day event which has been created as part of the organisation's continued efforts to help bereaved families. Participants have organised sponsored challenges and events to help bring in new funds for the charity.

Former Emmerdale star Miller co-founded Once Upon A Smile last year and has recruited a number of familiar faces from the soap world as patrons, including EastEnders stars Matt Lapinskas and Tony Discipline, Hollyoaks returnee James Sutton and former Waterloo Road cast members Will Rush and Jack McMullen.

The charity works to support those who have lost a parent or child through long-term illness, with initiatives including respite breaks and help with bill payments.

A dedicated Justgiving page has been set up for public donations over the 'Raising Smiles' weekend. It is also possible to donate via mobile phone by texting RSWE99 plus the donation amount up to £10 (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10) to 70070.

Miller commented: "I am extremely excited about the Raising Smiles weekend. I think it's a fabulous way to raise much needed funds for our charity whilst having endless fun throughout the weekend. We would like as many people as possible to support our event and for the support we have received I would like to thank everyone."

Once Upon A Smile co-founder Daniel Jillings added: "Raising Smiles is an excellent way for our supporters to help us during what is normally a quiet period in our year. We as a charity would not be where we are today without the help and dedication of each and every one of our supporters. We want to create a weekend to remember whilst raising the profile of our charity."

Miller and some of the charity's soap star patrons staged a takeover of Manchester's Tameside Radio station to promote the fundraising efforts earlier today, while a charity football match is also taking place in Manchester on Sunday with even more celebrity involvement.

Additionally, a signed caricature portrait of Danny with the charity's mascot Sidley is currently up for auction on eBay here with all proceeds going to Once Upon A Smile.

Full details on Once Upon A Smile can be found on its website.
