Emmerdale's Cameron Murray storyline takes a big new twist next week as he sleeps with his ex-partner Debbie Dingle.
Cameron betrays current girlfriend Chas (Lucy Pargeter) after slowly realising that Debbie (Charley Webb) really was 'the one' for him after all.
Here, Dominic Power - who plays Cameron - explains why his character is cheating again and how it's just the beginning of high drama ahead in the Dales…
Why does Cameron suddenly start standing up for Debbie when Andy takes the kids away from her?
"Cameron has never, ever stopped having feelings for Debbie. He obviously still loves her, but he also feels responsible because he started all this. Cameron feels like it's his fault that Debbie is having this little breakdown. She has ostracised herself from everyone in the village and has nobody to turn to, so Cameron feels that he's to blame for that. He thinks that he needs to step up and be there for her."
Cameron is struggling to get access to his own kids at the moment, so is that also playing a part?
"Yeah, Cameron knows what it's like to have his kids taken away from him. At the moment, his kids aren't even speaking to him so he really feels for Debbie in this situation."
Cameron even defends Debbie to Charity and Chas, doesn't he?
"Yes, he almost catches himself out in a way! He starts to protest a little bit too much and then has to back-pedal a little bit. But he's basically saying that he feels responsible and I think Chas will buy into that, because she also feels responsible for Debbie being the way she is. Chas has always felt guilty about it."
How does Cameron find out that Debbie is planning to flee the country with the kids?
"Robbie basically says that he's seen Debbie put suitcases in the back of her car, so Cameron knows something's up."
Cameron then tries to stop Debbie from going. Why is he so eager over this?
"Because he's in love with her, essentially! The more he's tried to help Debbie recently, the more he's realised this. It's brought it to the surface and it's also because they've had moments alone. Because everyone else has ditched Debbie, it's meant that they've suddenly found themselves in situations where they're alone together. That intimacy has brought things back up again."
How does Cameron and Debbie's kiss come about?
"Debbie is threatening to leave for good, and kissing her is all Cameron can do! He absolutely loves her 100% and never stopped. In that moment last year before Carl gave away the secret, Cameron was committed to Debbie, not Chas. There was that moment where he left Chas stranded at a bus stop somewhere, because he'd decided he wanted to be with Debbie and her family."
Does Cameron still love Chas?
"Yes, of course Cameron still has deep affection for Chas. But in a future episode where Cameron is justifying his love for Debbie, he asks himself whether he could have put Debbie through what Chas went through and let her stand trial. The answer is no. I think Debbie has always been the one."
Does Cameron feel guilty about cheating on Chas?
"His moral compass is so skewed right now, so I'm not sure he does!"
After the kiss, Chas walks in on Cameron and Debbie. What happens?
"Chas senses an atmosphere, but Cameron is a professional at these sorts of moments, so he can kind of get out of them. He feels guilty, but in his eyes, he's potentially about to stop someone he truly loves from leaving and making the mistake of her life."
Debbie then rushes to the airport with the kids, and Cameron insists that he's going after her. Does he have any plans to leave with Debbie?
"No, I think it's mainly because he also feels for Andy. Again, he's in that situation where he can't see his kids and he wouldn't wish that onto Andy."
What happens at the airport?
"Debbie is checking in, but Cameron says that if she does this, he will kick off and make a big scene in front of the kids. He just manages to convince her that it isn't the right thing to do, and she ends up coming back."
How do they get to the point of sleeping together?
"Again, it's one of those moments where Debbie is quite confused and not particularly trusting of Cameron - and quite rightly so! But again, I don't think she's ever really lost her feelings for him. They both find themselves in a moment and they can't control themselves. The passion is back between them!"
How torn is Cameron between Chas and Debbie?
"I think he's just sick of all the mess now and he wants it to get straightened out. Yes he feels bad about Chas, but I think he feels that he could crack on, do this and be with Debbie. Maybe she's his salvation."
Doesn't Cameron have enough secrets without an affair to add to the mix?
"He definitely does, but he almost feels like this is going back to when times were simpler - before Carl King, his threats and his bullying!"
Are you enjoying the latest plot twist?
"I am enjoying it, especially because I know roughly where it's leading to! As I said at the Soap Awards when I was up for 'Best Villain', if the awards had taken place in four or five months' time, Cameron would have won hands down! It does get dark, a lot darker... it's going to be quite explosive!"
