Gemma Bissix has claimed that she is struggling to find a boyfriend because men are "scared" of her soap characters.

The actress admitted that her memorable roles as Clare Bates in EastEnders and Clare Devine in Hollyoaks have come at a cost to her everyday life.

While viewers have watched the star launching gold-digging plots in Walford, the 26-year-old's Hollyoaks character was last seen murdering Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) in a dramatic revenge storyline.

Reflecting on the impact of the scenes, Bissix told the Daily Record: "Most men are scared of me. They either think I'm going to kill them or steal all their money. It's as if they can't distinguish me, Gemma, from my evil characters."

She continued: "I was in Sainsbury's recently and a female member of staff refused to serve me. I thought she was joking and tried to get my groceries onto the conveyor belt, but she point-blank refused. I was half-amused and half-annoyed.

"It's the downside of playing the super-bitch on TV. If people could meet the real Gemma, they would see I'm actually a nice person, and nothing like the Clare characters."

Despite the experiences, Bissix recently announced that she is keen to return to both shows in the future.
