'Oaks star reveals screen time struggles

Former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jane Buckley has admitted that she struggled with her fast-paced plots on the soap.

The actress, who played Kathy Barnes from 2005 to 2008, claimed that older cast members face the biggest challenge on the Channel 4 show because they are given little screen time for their stories to develop.

In an interview with Metro, Buckley commented: "They find it hard to show the journey you go through sometimes.

"You can't complain about it because you know exactly what the deal is. It would be naive to think it would be another way.

"You have to make giant leaps as an actor to get the story across because sometimes a story that would last six to eight weeks for a youngster would last a week for an adult. The ratio is completely different."

The 41-year-old concluded: "That's as challenging as doing something over six months. In Emmerdale they can stretch a storyline out for a very long time. In Hollyoaks I went mad within a week and stole a baby within a week!"

Last month, Buckley announced that she is keen to return to the programme as soon as possible.
