Viewers have seen the actress's alter ego Cindy Cunningham plotting to cheat Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) out of his fortune on the Channel 4 soap in recent months. The story reaches a climax in spinoff Hollyoaks Later this week as Cindy realises the extent of her feelings for Tony.
Speaking in an interview with DS, Waring backed the surprise plot twist, claiming that the time was right to give her character more depth.
She commented: "From my point of view we see a real person finally in Cindy - we see who she really is and how she really feels which has always been a mask for her in the normal Hollyoaks.
"She's always been really gobby and says what she thinks. She uses her outer image to hide who she really is inside and in Later we discover she's just a normal girl who wants to find love and security and have a secure life with her daughter and have a family - she's found that in Tony."
Waring added that she hopes producers will strike a balance between staying true to Cindy's scheming character and continuing to explore the softer side which emerges in the late-night episodes.
"We're going to have to see what happens with this but I don't think she'll change who she's become over the last eight years in Spain," she said. "It's important that we see she's not this one-dimensional gold-digging tart, though."
Hollyoaks Later continues tonight at 9pm on E4.
