Merna: 'I prefer fun Hollyoaks scenes'

Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna has admitted that she prefers to be part of humourous storylines on the teen soap.

The 25-year-old actress revealed that she is grateful to the show's producers because they try to provide variety for her role as ditzy Carmel McQueen.

"The writers always come up with some good stuff and I like doing the fun stuff with Carmel," Merna told PA. "I prefer these scenes because all the crying makes me a wee bit depressed.

"I like being chatty, giggling and all that stuff. I have a nice balance with Carmel because they take her serious every so often and I do like that."

Merna recently announced that she would "love" to stick with the part for years to come. She joined the programme in 2006.
