Next week, a sinister secret from the blonde's past will come back to haunt her when she finds that childhood friend Chrissy (Amber Hodgkiss) has arrived in the village.
As revealed last month, Loretta and Chrissy both killed a 12-year-old child when they were the same age. Following an extensive period of rehabilitation, they went on to be given new identities and make fresh starts separately.
Speaking to DS about delving into her character's history, Walton commented: "It took a little while and until now, we've known little about her. Nobody in the village knows who she is or where she's come from. She's just planted herself in the village knowing hardly anybody. She's quite a mysterious character. I'm absolutely loving the opportunity to explore her backstory."
Of her initial reaction to the plot, she continued: "I was like, 'Oh my gosh!' I was so shocked but absolutely chuffed to bits because this is what all actors want - something massive like this to sink my teeth into. I feel so privileged that they've trusted me with this story. I know they've wanted to do it for a while and they've finally chosen me!"
Walton joined the Channel 4 soap at the beginning of the year after Loretta previously appeared in late-night spinoff Hollyoaks Later.
