Hollyoaks returnee Alex Carter has spoken of his excitement following the announcement that his comeback scenes will air in the soap's new online spinoff.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Carter's alter ego Lee Hunter is to appear in Hollyoaks: Freshers, a six-part internet drama which will also introduce a trio of new students.

Carter's involvement in the series will come before he makes his permanent return as Lee in the main Channel 4 soap following four years as a cast member on Emmerdale.

Speaking exclusively to DS, the 28-year-old commented: "I'm thrilled to be back and it's really exciting that my first episodes are for the online spinoff.

"It feels like I've never been away and I've enjoyed seeing all the cast and crew again - although there are lots of new faces in the mix! I can't wait to get my teeth into new storylines with some of the new characters. Lee Hunter hasn't changed one bit!"

Hollyoaks: Freshers - which is due to launch on August 26 - will also feature regular characters Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson), Charlotte Lau (Amy Yamazaki) and Dave Colburn (Elliot James Langridge).
