Bronagh Waugh has praised Hollyoaks for tackling hard-hitting subjects.
Speaking to DS at the Inside Soap Awards last night, Waugh discussed Kieron Richardson's upcoming storyline.
"2011 is the time to watch Hollyoaks," she said. "Tune in now because it's getting so exciting - with that storyline about domestic violence, it's not about a homosexual relationship, it's about domestic violence and it happens to be two men.
"It's incredibly hard-hitting and it happens. It's really important that we talk about it and that we show it."
The actress also praised new cast member Darren Day and assured viewers that he had won the role based on merit, describing his audition tape as "fantastic".
