Day: 'Danny likes Jacqui's feistiness'

Hollyoaks' new recruit Darren Day has revealed that his character Danny Houston finds himself attracted to the fiery nature of show favourite Jacqui McQueen.

Sinister nightclub owner Danny has been dating Jacqui (Claire Cooper) off-screen in recent episodes of the Channel 4 soap after they met during a lunch date with Brendan Brady (Emmett Scanlan).

Speaking to Digital Spy about how Danny copes with Jacqui's outspoken behaviour, Day explained: "I think he's actually quite attracted to that! I don't think he's used to it, as he's used to getting his own way - both in business and in pleasure.

"But Jacqui stands up to him, and even though he's not used to it, I think he likes it. He's quite intrigued by the fact that she's so feisty and he likes that edginess about her."

Day makes his debut as Danny in tonight's episode of the Channel 4 soap, which sees him annoy Jacqui by rebuking her for speaking to another man at Chez Chez. He then disappears from screens before becoming a permanent fixture on the show later this year.

"I think Danny gets a little bit heavy and possessive, and he isn't happy to see [Jacqui] talking to another fella in the club, so she gets a bit scared and backs off," Day added.

"When Danny comes back, though, they get together properly - and I think Jacqui feels she might be able to tame him a little bit. But he's not really up for that! He can't be tamed really!"
