'Hollyoaks' Tony is having a mid-life crisis, says Nick Pickard

Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard has claimed that a "mid-life crisis" is to blame for the unexpected antics of his character Tony Hutchinson in forthcoming episodes.

Next week, viewers will see Tony come home to the village following his time away travelling, but he returns a changed man as he is now living a new-age lifestyle.

Although Tony is pleased to have reinvented himself, his ex-wife Mandy isn't impressed by his new casual dress sense and laid-back attitude - threatening the chances of a reunion for the pair.

Pickard told TV Times of the storyline: "Tony's having a midlife crisis. He doesn't realise that, past 30, you look a bit stupid dressing the way he does."

However, the actor added that he believes Tony and Mandy can get back on track in the coming weeks.

"Underneath it all, Tony is still the same person and he loves Mandy," he said. "If they hadn't lost a child, they might have stayed together the first time round. They were really happy before that happened."

Sarah Jayne Dunn, who plays Mandy, made a surprise return to the soap late last year.
