Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has revealed that he is pleased with the reaction to his character's domestic abuse storyline.

On the Channel 4 soap, Ste (Richardson) has been a victim of violence at the hands of his lover Brendan (Emmett Scanlan).

"[The public reaction] been really positive," the actor told Digital Spy. "Domestic abuse has been done in Hollyoaks before... but gay domestic abuse has never been done on British TV whatsoever."

He added: "I think we're portraying it [well] and it will have a good ending."

Richardson also praised his co-star Scanlan, who joined Hollyoaks in August last year.

"Since Emmett's come in, the show's had this injection... of this character, that is so menacing, so psychotic and yet so loveable," he said. "It's really captured the audience."
