Carley Stenson has said that her one-off Hollyoaks appearance felt "really normal".

The actress will return to her role as Steph Roach on the Boxing Day episode of the Channel 4 soap.

"Strangely, it didn't feel weird because I had been there for ten years, so it felt like I was doing something I had always been doing," Stenson told MSN

"Like I had just blinked the year away. It felt really normal."

Roach was killed in a fire last December, but will return as a "heavenly vision" to warn Doug Carter (PJ Brennan) against committing suicide.

"It was a nice, unexpected surprise. I had died so I really didn't think I would be coming back - but I guess there is nothing that Hollyoaks can't do," she continued.

"I was happy to go back, but I didn't want it to be a bit of a farce.

"But I liked the story and how it channels It's A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. It's quite sweet, and it's Christmas as well!"

Stenson first appeared in the soap in March 2000.

The Hollyoaks special will air on December 26 at 6.30pm.
