Angry young emo for 'Hollyoaks'
Published Thursday, Oct 11 2007, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green

Barry 'Newt' Newton – played by 17-year-old soap newcomer Nico Mirallegro – turns up in Hollyoaks village as Jack and Frankie's foster child.
At 15, Newt is already an angry, young emo. Dark in both his appearance and attitude, he has been in foster care since he was three owing to his mother's heroin addiction and his father's disappearance.
Despite his dark demeanour, Newt is a highly intelligent and articulate youngster. As a result of his fostering history, Newt is able to psychoanalyse everyone he comes into contact with.
Inside, however, he is sensitive and secretly hopes his Mum will clean up her act and track him down.
Speaking of his new role, Mirallegro said: "I'm really excited to be working on Hollyoaks and to be acting alongside such a great bunch of people.
"Newt's a great character to play as he's just got so many sides to his personality. I can never wait to get the next script!"
Producer Bryan Kirkwood told DS: "Newt's a 15-year-old emo kid who will be someone who a growing number of our audience can identify with."
He added: "He's a little belter who after a couple of years in the background will hopefully prove to be a really big character."
Mirallegro's first scenes are due to air on Monday, October 22.
Check back tomorrow for DS's full interview with Bryan Kirkwood.
