'Hollyoaks' actress for 'The Sound of Music'?
Hollyoaks actress Summer Strallen has landed the lead role in West End production The Sound of Music as a tie-in with her current storyline, according to reports.

The 24-year-old's Hollyoaks character Summer Shaw makes a bid for musical stardom at the end of the month when she and boyfriend OB (Darren Jeffries) spend a week in London in an attempt to meet Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber.

Surprisingly, the peer – who will make a cameo appearance in three episodes of the soap – agrees to hear Summer sing and is pleasantly surprised by what he sees, liking her so much that he offers her an audition for The Sound of Music.

In what could be Hollyoaks' first 'real life' crossover, Strallen's character will reportedly bow out of the soap when she lands the role of Maria von Trapp, while off-screen, the actress will be the successor to How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? champion Connie Fisher.

Filming in London took place in the middle of November at the London Palladium – home to The Sound of Music – and the scenes will transmit from Monday, January 28.

An official announcement as to Strallen's role in the musical has yet to be made, while a Hollyoaks spokesperson was unavailable to comment.

Strallen first appeared in Hollyoaks on October 2 and is the niece of actress and theatre star Bonnie Langford.
