Aired Thursday, Dec 31 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

An unconscious Zoe finally come to and the events preceding her attack are fresh in her mind as Lydia's face looms before her. Desperate for the truth, Zoe goads Lydia and tells her that she never had feelings for her - it was all a lie. Zoe beseeches her to say the words 'I killed Sarah', but Lydia refuses. However, it's not long before a floundering Lydia finally admits that the parachute was meant for her, not Sarah.

Zoe's horrified when Lydia pulls a knife and lunges at her. Fleeing for her life, Zoe runs from the church with Lydia in hot pursuit. With time running out, Zoe endeavours to talk Lydia round but she's seriously unstable and as midnight bells begin to ring out, Lydia's plan begins to play out.

However, Charlotte, Mike and Dave arrive too late, finding Zoe bleeding and unconscious on Sarah's grave…

Meanwhile, it's New Year's Eve and Frankie suggests a night out at The Dog to celebrate and asks Steph and Fernando along. Arriving at the pub, they're greeted by a drunk Rhys who's on a mission to live like it's his last day on earth. Before long, Rhys passes out and Gilly's heart sinks when Fernando shows him the ring he's bought for Steph, before revealing his plans to propose to her.

Frankie tells Cheryl that Gilly has admitted he's in love with her and thrilled, Cheryl quickly reciprocates her feelings for him. Realising that Fernando's proposal is imminent, Gilly panics and manages to stop him in his tracks.

However, increasingly frustrated by their inability to express their true feelings for each other, Steph and Gilly are on the verge of kissing. They're interrupted, though, by Gilly and Cheryl. As the bells chime midnight, their moment is lost.

Elsewhere, Mike heads to The Loft to take his mind off being alone at New Year. Archie, however, wants to confront him but Kris steps in and pulls him back. Amy, meanwhile, is also desperate for some attention from Sasha. Running a bar, though, appears to be a higher priority than spending time with her friends.

Charlotte struggles to cope with her guilt and when Mike, Archie and Kris argue about Zoe, she's unable to shoulder the burden and with that, she erupts and admits that Lydia cut Sarah's parachute chord.

Mike lambastes Charlotte for keeping her knowledge a secret, before heading home to confront Lydia. However, back at the Barnes', they discover Lydia's suicide note. Mike and Dave realise that Zoe's in grave peril… Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
