Radha Mitchell praises 'Neighbours'
Actress Radha Mitchell has praised Neighbours as being a training ground for young actors.

The Surrogates star appeared in Neighbours in the 1990s before going on to achieve success in the US.

Speaking to Digital Spy about her time on the iconic soap, Mitchell said: "I think it's the only alternative for a lot of Australian actors, especially actors that are quite young because they don't really make a lot of media in Australia.

"For many people it's their first role as one character on Neighbours and maybe their second role as another character on Neighbours and their third role as yet another character on Neighbours, so it's like a staple it's always there."

She added: "Certainly not somewhere where you'd want to stay forever but it's a great training ground in the sense that it goes on and on and on."

Surrogates opens in cinemas on Friday.
