TV Week reports that eliminated hopeful Scott Newnham is in discussions with Channel Ten about joining the Australian soap.
"I'm trying out for a role; it's on the cards," the 20-year-old bricklayer said. "I've spoken to [Channel Ten executive] Stephen Tate, saying I'm interested in a role on the show, and he told me to come down to Melbourne and try out. I'm getting an agent soon."
Newnham, who was favourite to win the talent contest before being eliminated last week, would become the second Australian Idol singer to star on Neighbours.
Ex-Idol contestant Dean Geyer previously appeared on the soap before quitting after a year to focus on a music career.
