Neighbours star Alan Fletcher has claimed that faces from the show's past should be invited back for the soap's 6,000th episode later this year.

The landmark instalment of the Ramsay Street soap is expected to be the focus of its 25th anniversary celebrations, but producers are currently keeping plans for the special edition under wraps.

Speaking to Holy Soap about the possibility of characters returning for the episode, Fletcher explained: "There's been no mention of it made to us, but I do hope so. For the 20th anniversary episode we had a clever device where cast members performed in a video.

"You just never know what's going to happen. But they are dreaming hard and long and shooting for the stars."

The actor, who plays show favourite Karl Kennedy, went on to name two former cast members who he would particularly like to see back.

He said: "One of my favourite characters was always Joe Mangel. Mark Little is a very funny man and great comedian and good actor, and I thought Joe was a fantastic earthy character.

"I was also very fond of Janelle Timmins, played by Nell Feeney. Janelle was what we might call a bit of a bogan, a very down-to-earth country woman. The whole Timmins family were marvellous."
