Neighbours star Margot Robbie has revealed that her character's time on Ramsay Street will end on a positive note as she leaves Erinsborough in search of Stateside success.

The actress's alter ego Donna Freedman will depart Erinsborough for a new life in New York in episodes which air in Australia next week.

Donna - who lost her husband Ringo in a road accident last year - makes her exit in order to study fashion at a design school in the Big Apple.

In an interview with TV Week, Robbie explained: "It is very daunting for Donna at first. Ringo was the one who applied for Donna to do this course - it's like he's doing this one last thing for her.

"She doesn't want to muck it up and let him down. She feels this is her last chance to live up to his expectations - but then she gets her head around the idea and is more determined than ever to go and be a success."

Asked whether she was happy with the exit plot, the star joked: "I wanted a big, dramatic death or to go to rehab. But no, it's just a boring old happy ending!"

Robbie is now based in Los Angeles in a bid to pursue US acting roles. Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
