Nicola said: “We were off for a month over Christmas so I watched Neighbours every day.”
“It looks really familiar,” added Kimberley. “It’s surreal to be here.”
The bandmates performed their own rendition of the iconic theme tune, prompting Cheryl to comment: “You could never forget that song could you?”
The band were also delighted to have been let in on some top secret storylines by long-standing cast member Alan Fletcher (Dr. Karl Kennedy). Alan will be touring the UK with his own band - The Waiting Room - in May and they discussed the possibility of catching each other’s shows.
“I can’t believe he knew who we were,” admitted Nadine.
“Do you know what you should do?” advised Nicola. “When they’re in the café and stuff and you have music playing in the background, you should have our Girls Aloud album. Please, you have to!”
“We’ll give you the rights,” added Cheryl. “That’s when you know you’ve made it. When your song’s on.”
The Melbourne based soap opera, which filmed its 5000th episode earlier this month, also received a special Commonwealth Games visit from The Welsh Ruby Sevens.
