Jackie Woodburne has revealed that her role as Susan Kennedy in Neighbours still provides her with fresh challenges.

The actress has played the Ramsay Street favourite since 1994, making her the soap's longest-serving female cast member.

Susan and husband Karl (Alan Fletcher) have been tipped to return to the forefront of Neighbours later this year as they experience new problems in their marriage, which begin when Susan develops a strong attachment to another man.

Speaking to Digital Spy about her longevity on the show, Woodburne commented: "The only way I have been able to do this job for so long and so happily is because it remains a challenge. Just today, Alan and I were thrashing out some scenes for this storyline with the other man that we were both struggling with, so we were working with the director and trying to find a way through potential problems.

"When the day comes that I get a script, learn it and say it, that will probably be the time I walk away, but while it is still a challenge and remains a challenge, it's great!"

The star also confirmed that she is "very happy" at Neighbours and has "no plans to leave".
