'Neighbours' Jackie Woodburne 'worried Kennedys would break up'

Neighbours actress Jackie Woodburne has admitted that she worried when she found out about an upcoming storyline involving her character Susan Kennedy.

The soap will see Susan and long-time husband Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) face their latest challenge as a couple when she starts spending time with Jim Dolan (Scott Parameter), who is suffering from cancer.

Woodburne told Channel 5 that herself and Fletcher were slightly worried that their characters would split up as part of the storyline.

"When we heard about it, when we saw each other, we went, 'They're going to break us up. I think they're going to break us up. Oh no, now we're going to work with other people!'" she said.

"We both have the same attitude to the work. We're hungry for stories and we're hungry for new developments for the characters, so it's just something else to explore.

"[Susan's] challenge, I think, is going to be to find out who she is as one half of a couple, as opposed to being the hub of a wheel."

However, Woodburne added that she has high hopes that the couple will be able to get through their latest marriage crisis.

"If they can survive two affairs with 25-year-olds, I think they can probably survive anything," she declared.

Woodburne had previously said that she was "excited" about the upcoming storyline, due to begin on Channel 5 next week.
