'Neighbours Remixed' theme tune competition ends in a tie

By
Neighbours bosses have announced that the new version of the show's theme tune will be a duet following a surprise tie in the 'Neighbours Remixed' competition.

Last week, UK finalist Daniel Boys and Australian representative Stephanie Angelini went head-to-head in a sing-off in Melbourne to determine who would be the new voice of Neighbours.

In a twist, the judging panel were unable to choose between the two hopefuls. As a result, they will now feature as a duet on the opening and closing titles of the long-running soap.

Neighbours' executive producer Richard Jasek explained: "Both Stephanie and Daniel have exquisite voices and together created a harmony which took us all by surprise. We couldn't let the opportunity go to put these extraordinary performers together, and the end result has far exceeded all expectations."

Boys, a former contestant on BBC One's Any Dream Will Do, enthused: "I'm so happy right now. This whole competition and trip here has been amazing. Stephanie is such a lovely girl and the outcome could not have been better. I can't wait for the public to hear the new theme sung by us."

Angelini added: "This is absolutely amazing. For someone starting out in the music industry, it's an incredible opportunity and I'm honoured to sing with Daniel such a great theme tune to an iconic Australian series. I've been a fan of Neighbours for many years and to know that our voices will be heard on the show every night, that is just incredible."

Neighbours launched the 'Remixed' competition in February, giving fans in the UK and Australia the chance to become the vocalist on a newly-updated version of the programme's theme.

Show chief Jasek judged the final two hopefuls with help from Neighbours' music director Chris Pettifer and entertainer Barry Crocker, who sung the soap's original theme between 1985 and 1992.

Crocker said: "Both Daniel and Stephanie are delightful ambassadors for their respective countries, not to mention terrific singers. I think the duet is a wonderful rendition to the Neighbours theme and harks back to the original I recorded 28 years ago."

The new Neighbours opening titles and theme will feature from next week on Australian broadcasts.
